Umtsala Waste Paper Basket

Umtsala Wastepaper Basket

There is a particular beauty in things made by hand, and this basket has it in every turn of the weave. Umtsala grass and Ilala palm are gathered, dried and coiled, row upon patient row, by a women-led social enterprise in Eswatini and KwaZulu-Natal. The result is a basket the colour of late afternoon light, with a textured, organic finish that no factory could imitate.

Place it beside a writing desk, under a console or in the corner of a guest room, where it will quietly earn its place as an object worth looking at. Compact yet generous, it is a small piece of craft with a big sense of heritage, and no two are ever quite the same.
